Serendipitous Thoughts by Sugar Bear
"What Really Is Christmas About In Today’s World?"
Let me say this straight.
Christmas isn’t soft.
It’s not sentimental.
And for a lot of folks, it’s not easy.
People are worn down.
Bodies hurt.
Families are complicated.
Money’s tight.
Faith gets tested.
And our country feels tired.
So what is Christmas really about right here, right now?
It’s about God first.
Not as a slogan.
As a foundation.
God didn’t wait for the world to settle down.
He stepped right into the noise.
That’s faith in motion.
That’s why this promise steadies me:
God is with us.
God strengthens us.
God holds us up.
I used to tell the players I coached this all the time:
We’re all underdogs.
Life stacks the odds.
Injuries.
Mistakes.
Loss.
Pressure to perform and prove.
So let me say this out loud no hesitation.
"I’m in the transfer portal for Jesus!"
Why?
Because every season of my life, I choose Him again.
Because comfort never saved me Christ did.
Because He doesn’t recruit with hype.
He calls with truth.
And He never cuts you for being human.
That’s Christmas.
It speaks to what people already carry deep down.
The pull to care for the vulnerable.
The hunger for fairness.
The loyalty we feel toward our people.
Respect for what’s been handed down.
A sense that some things are sacred.
And the longing to live free but not alone.
That’s why a children’s book by Tupac Shakur, The Rose That Grew from Concrete, still sticks with me.
A rose doesn’t wait for perfect soil.
It grows anyway.
Joseph learned that after betrayal and long silence:
What others meant for harm, God turned toward good. Genesis 50:20
That’s also why Braver Angels matters right now.
Because Christmas people don’t walk away from hard conversations.
They stay.
They listen.
They speak truth without contempt.
They honor what others care about—even when they disagree.
Here’s my Christmas NIL what I carry into the world:
N — Name: Jesus.
I — Image: Immanuel. God with us.
L — Likeness: Love that stays.
That’s my witness.
So hear this clearly:
You are loved.
Rooted in God first.
Strengthened by faith.
Sent into the world as a peacemaker.
Merry Christmas from Sugar Bear to all.
God bless you and this ministry!
