Serendipitous Thoughts by Sugar Bear
“The Morning Compass”
“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.”
Book of Psalms 143:8
Each morning, when the sun begins to pour over the horizon, God hands us something priceless another opportunity.
David understood that. David wore many titles in his lifetime:
shepherd boy, warrior, giant-slayer, king of Israel, and a man after God’s own heart. Yet when he spoke to God, he sounded like a humble servant who knew exactly where his strength came from.
He prayed:
“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning…”
Today you hear all kinds of self-help advice about how to start your day strong. Wake up early. Drink warm water. Eat the right breakfast. Exercise. Journal.
Now don’t get me wrong those things may help.
But starting your day strong is not a new concept. It is a biblical practice.
David was already doing it thousands of years ago.
I like to start my mornings with prayer and reflective writing. But let me be honest with you in true Sugar Bear fashion sometimes the morning gets away from me. If I turn on the television, scroll social media, or jump straight into the business of the day, my spirit can quickly get crowded out.
That’s when I remind myself:
discipline for the Lord comes first.
I try to sit quietly and say, “Lord, this day isn’t about me. Show me my sin, point me to Your grace, and guide my steps.”
Something powerful happens in that quiet moment.
Reflective time with God smooths the rough edges of the day before the world ever gets a chance to sharpen them.
The second part of David’s prayer says:
“Show me where to walk.”
Imagine beginning every morning with that surrender. If we truly trusted our lives to Jesus, it would change how we respond to people who irritate us, how we handle political disagreements, and how we face a world full of division and noise.
Instead of becoming relentless critics of everything around us, we become grateful travelers walking the path God sets before us.
Even our Lord Jesus modeled this rhythm. Scripture tells us:
“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”
Gospel of Mark 1:35
If the Son of God needed quiet mornings with the Father, how much more do we?
No matter how dark the night has been, morning always arrives. And when that light breaks across the sky, God is whispering the same invitation David heard:
Come hear my love again.
Come trust me again.
Come walk with me again.
His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23).
May you experience God’s unfolding love tomorrow morning and every morning that follows.
God bless you and this ministry!
