Courageous Citizen Friday!
Have a Rootbear on me without the Root!
Serendipitous Thoughts by Sugar Bear
"Rest for the Weary"
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Some weeks the world feels heavy.
Politics is loud.
Opinions are sharp.
People who once talked easily now walk past each other like strangers.
You can feel the exhaustion everywhere.
Jesus knew something about weary hearts. That is why His invitation in Matthew is so simple and so profound:
Come to me.
Not come to an argument.
Not come to a tribe.
Not come to prove you are right.
Just come to me brothers and Sisters.
When I think about being a courageous citizen, I remember that courage does not always look like shouting louder. Sometimes courage looks like resting in Christ first so that our actions toward others are guided by grace instead of frustration.
The Braver Angels Way reminds us that the person across from us is not an enemy but a fellow citizen. It calls us to respect, humility, and a willingness to listen before judging.
That kind of courage begins in a quiet place the heart.
If Christ has given us rest, then we can offer something rare in our divided culture:
"peaceful presence"
Courageous Citizen Friday Challenge
Today’s challenge is simple: pause, use logic before emotion, and look for common ground.
Start in your 100-foot circle of influence.
Try one small action that builds connection instead of division:
• Listen longer than you normally would.
• Ask someone how they formed their opinion.
• Post something online that encourages unity rather than outrage.
• Invite someone with a different viewpoint to coffee.
• Pray for someone whose politics frustrate you.
You do not have to fix the whole country today.
Just lift one relationship.
Small acts of courage grow into stronger communities.
And when enough people choose understanding over anger, the tone of our nation begins to change.
Where do you feel weary today?
Bring that burden to Christ first.
Then ask yourself one question:
What courageous step toward common ground can I take today?
Because courageous citizens do not just talk about healing division.
They begin living it one conversation, one relationship, one act of grace at a time.
God bless you and this ministry!
