Serendipitous Thoughts by Sugar Bear
"Jesus Loves Me Even When Love Ran Thin"
“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. — Isaiah 54:10
I have written a million songs in my heart—songs of struggle, songs of thanks, songs of hope. And one truth remains constant:
Jesus loves me, even when human love ran thin.
I grew up in the Laurel Homes and Lincoln Court housing projects of Cincinnati—roughly bounded by Liberty and John Streets, Ezzard Charles Drive, and Linn Street. Over 2,300 units of low-income housing, brick walls full of stories of survival. It was tough ground, but it was holy ground for a child of God.
Those streets taught me resilience. At Robert A Taft "Senator "High School, I learned discipline. On the sidewalks, I learned toughness. In the darkness, I learned to seek light. Poverty and struggle could have been the whole story—but God was writing something greater.
That’s why Ephesians 6:10 hangs over my bed:
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
This verse is more than ink on a wall. It is the testimony of my life. It tells me that my toughness wasn’t just street grit—it was God’s strength carrying me through. It tells me that my hardships weren’t wasted—they shaped a mindset to endure, to fight the good fight, to trust His power more than my own.
So when I look back across 52 years, I see God’s fingerprints on every hardship, every test, every climb. And I give thanks for a life of meaning, for being called “Strong One,” not by the world but by the Lord.
My lesson for you" it's well with my soul "
And when the weight of life feels too heavy, learn this simple truth:
give it to God and go to sleep. He is awake when we are weary, working when we cannot see, and faithful when we cannot carry on. Trust His strength, rest in His promises, and rise with His peace.
God bless you and this ministry!
